Heartworm / Intestinal Worm / Parasite Control & Prevention

Mosquito bites transmit heartworm disease; so all dogs and cats should be on heartworm prevention year round. Treatment is available for affected dogs but does not exist for cats. The disease may cause irreversible damage to the heart so preventing heartworms is the best way to care for your pet.

Heartgard is a chewable biscuit that is given once a month and is well tolerated in dogs and cats. This
preventative also kills the intestinal parasites of hook & round worms.

Interceptor is flavored heartworm preventative tablet. It is administered once a month, and it kills the intestinal parasites hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms.

Sentinel is a heartworm preventative that has all the qualities of Interceptor, but also the added benefit of a flea egg sterilizer. This medication will prevent flea eggs from hatching; it does not kill adult fleas. This product works well when all dogs are treated and kept in their own environment; since the eggs will not hatch the flea population is kept to a minimum.

Revolution is a topical multipurpose preventative that can be used on dogs and cats. It is very popular among cat owners, since it provides coverage for heartworms, ear mites, fleas, some ticks and sarcoptic mange. The benefits for dogs are similar, and this medication will remain effective even after a bath and is also safe for use in pregnant or nursing females.

Advantage Multi is a topical multipurpose heartworm preventative & flea control that can be used on dogs. It is applied once a month between the shoulder blades. The flea control properties are exactly like Advantage.

This medication will kill 98-100% of fleas on the pet within 12 hours and larval flea stages will be killed following contact with the treated pet. It is well tolerated in cats and dogs and is safe to use on puppies and kittens as early as 6 weeks of age. This medication will remain effective even after a bath or swimming.

Advantix is a monthly topical medication with all the benefits of Advantage; however, it also provides control for ticks and mosquitoes. This product can only be used on dogs 12 weeks and older. Do not use this product on cats.

Frontline Plus is a topical flea and tick medication, which also remains effective after bathing. If desired it can be applied every 3 months for flea control instead of once a month, but if ticks are a concern the medication should be applied once a month. Frontline also provides protection against chewing lice and will kill flea eggs. This product can be use on cats and dogs and is safe for puppies and kittens, as well as nursing or pregnant females.

Preventic Collars will kill and detach ticks for up to 3 months. The medication in the collar will paralyze the tick’s mouth causing the tick to fall off and die. The Preventic collar is for use on dogs 12 weeks and older. This product can be used with the other topical medications.

Comfortis is a monthly flea control administered orally. It is recommended for use on dogs and puppies at least 12 weeks. It must be given with a meal and can be used along with other flea, tick medications.

Capstar is an oral flea treatment for use on cats/dogs and puppies/kittens as young as 6 weeks of age. Capstar works within 30 minutes to kill fleas. It can be used once daily, as it only lasts for 24 hours in the pet’s body. Capstar may be used along with other flea, tick medications.

Promeris is a topical flea, tick medication, which also remains effective after bathing. If desired it can be applied every 3 months for flea control instead of once a month, but if ticks are a concern the medication should be applied once a month. Promeris is only for dogs 8 weeks and older. Do not use on cats.
