Dr. Carter joins Staff

SAN ANTONIO, TX, Aug. 30, 2010 – Dr. Adam Carter, DVM, has joined the staff of veterinarians at Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort, part of a move to double the number of doctors at one of the city’s top facilities offering 24/7 pet care.

Dr. Carter got a taste of the veterinary life as a child of 10, when his family moved from  Detroit to the cattle ranges of South Dakota.  The former big-city kid mingled with ranchers, and became familiar with their pets and livestock.

Soon he was driving around with the local veterinarian, and fell in love with the veterinary lifestyle.

“I decided on a veterinary career because I wanted to do something in the basic sciences,” he said. “I became a vet because it was a great profession that balanced science and the human side of health care.”

And it’s the passion of pet owners that gives him satisfaction.

“People astound me with their dedication to their pets,” he said. “They put their heart and soul into what they want for their pets.”

And he likes the diversity of pet owners who bring their beloved creatures for care at Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort.

“People from the affluent side of town come here, and people who are not so affluent, but they have the same love for their pets,” he said. “We do our best here at Becker Animal Hospital to provide even-handed treatment.”

Dr. Carter received his bachelor’s in biology at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., and then received his doctor’s in veterinary medicine from Kansas State University in 2005.  He comes to Becker Animal Hospital after five years’ experience in large practices in Wichita, Kansas.

His companion is his six-year-old female shorthair cat, Asha, who he adopted from a Kansas farm while in vet school.

Dr. Michael Becker, DVM, founder and director of Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort, praises the new vet on his team:

“Dr. Carter is a very meticulous and thorough veterinarian, who has great interest in all areas of veterinary medicine – including internal medicine, surgery and dentistry – with an emphasis in dental procedures,” Dr. Becker said.  “He is very pleasant, very well-mannered, and meticulous with his concern for both the pets and pet owners.”
