SAN ANTONIO, TX  August 30, 2010  — Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort – a 22,000-square-foot, 24-hour health and boarding facility near I-10 and northwest I-410 – has doubled its team of veterinarians, hospital founder and director Dr. Michael Becker, DVM, has announced.

A team of six veterinarians, plus dozens of support staff, now provide around-the-clock services at the massive hospital and boarding center, which opened in December, 2009.

BeckerAnimal Hospitaland Pet Resort,  is a full-service, state-of-the-art, 24-hour veterinary hospital and luxurious pet resort offering luxury suite boarding with webcams, indoor-outdoor kennel boarding and standard cage boarding, as well as doggie day care and other ancillary pet services.

Becker has added staff to meet the growth in the hospital’s popularity and the rising number of patients.

“Becker Animal Hospital will continue to grow with the principles upon which it was created on: service to our human and, especially, our animal clients,” says  Becker  “Our mission is to provide the client and their pet with the highest quality pet care possible in an immediate, on-demand environment.  Our intention is to do anything you want for your pet at anytime you ask.” 

While most veterinary facilities are modeled after human clinics with schedules and appointments, the Becker   has a “no appointment necessary” policy that is available seven days a week, with no additional charges for evenings and weekends. Customers welcome the flexibility of not having to rearrange work schedules to accommodate their pet’s health and well-being.  The Becker Animal Hospital staff is fully bilingual

  • Dedicated food prep room, storage
  • A second bath and dip ward with 30 cages
  • 32 indoor/outdoor runs
  • 36 indoor only runs
  • 53 luxury suites complete with webcams—some with windows to the outside
  • Dedicated feline boarding room with a play area that can house 60 or more cats
  • 300 gallon salt water aquarium for the feline viewing pleasure
  • Indoor 900 sq. ft. doggie day care room floor to ceiling glass for public viewing
  • Outside day care area landscaped and turf
  • 16 outdoor runs for exercise
  • Big dog bath/dip room with 30 cages
  • Two dog-walking areas
  • Large enclosed outdoor exam area, for any pet that does better outside
  • 10 make-ready kennels with water and electric dryers to prepare pets to leave

Hospital facilities include:

  • A dedicated retail food room
  • 60’ of secure product shelf space behind the front desk
  • Four flat screen TVs in the lobby for veterinary information
  • 7 exam rooms for private client consultations and exams
  • Lab equipment consisting of two chemistry analyzers, complete blood count unit, electrolyte analyzer, blood clotting profiler, urinalysis, and a number of separate test kits for heartworms, blood infections, parvovirus, pancreatis, and more
  • Two dedicated surgical suits for surgeries and dentals
  • Radiograph and ultrasound room,  an associate doctors office and staff training room
  • Two separated treatment areas with a total of seven work tables
  • Dedicated prep room with a pass-through cabinet to surgery
  • Liquid oxygen system with ceiling drop oxygen and scavenge
  • Dedicated oxygen cage with 2 climate controlled air-conditioned cages and 2 heated cages
  • Multiple treatment cages in both treatment rooms
  • Isolation room with 10 cages and two runs and a separate additional heating system
  • Bathdip room with 30 cages
  • Laundry room

Dr. Becker is originally from St. Louis and attended the University of Missouri, at Columbia, Mo. from 1975 to 1983 where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Becker worked more than two years in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Texas before establishing his practice and opening the original Becker Animal Hospital in San Antonio in 1986.

The Veterinarian for the City of Balcones Heights, he regularly attends the Western States Vet Conference to further his veterinary skills and various business classes in the areas of administration and management.
